Agreed. With the disastrous practice session, I really don't expect Button or Mag to finish. Still, Button 11th place was encouraging and kind of surprising.
A friend of mine (still wearing his tin foil hat), still insist that Mclaren Honda is sandbagging that all the problems are smoke and mirrors to evade F1 officials and other teams from enforcing the development ban on Honda engine. The proof is in the last race as where in practice the Mclaren seemingly awfully paceless the race shows significant improvement.
I'm not into conspiracy, since engineering is not my expertise. All I know is that F1 cars are technically difficult and it will take plenty of dedication to sort things out.

Well, they got their 9 development tokens so they can stop sandbagging now! But in all seriousness, if we go back to January when liveries and sponsorships were being discussed there's just too much on the line to mess with staged failures. Practice was the first time the cars were run since the now infamous preseason tests so I'd be going slow, too. And both cars qualified better than its fastest race lap (as is the case for most cars in most races). They're either craftier than we can imagine or your friend should keep his foil hat on, I'm guessing the latter ;-).
