After a two year absence due to strict pandemic policy by the host country, the Canadian Grand Prix returns this weekend! Built on a man-made island, Circuit Gilles Villeneuve first hosted the Canadian Grand Prix in 1978 (where Gilles Villeneuve took the win). Known for its power-hungry long straights and sharp turns, the circuit is a favorite of drivers and fans alike. Completed for the 2019 race, the all new $44M pit facility will see its second use this weekend.
Red Bull return to Canada boosted by their 1-2 finish in Baku and a growing lead in both championships. With Ferrari’s problems likely not an 'overnight’ fix the team will look to capitalize and repeat those results in Montreal keeping in mind that the Prancing Horse is still a stroke of luck away from besting them. Look for two cars on the podium with a win likely. On the AlphaTauri side of the garage look for one car solidly in the points and the other not far behind but likely just outside of points-paying positions.
Elsewhere on the grid, look for this to be a general ranking of team performance coming into the race weekend:
1. Red Bull
2. Ferrari
3. Mercedes
4. McLaren
5. Alpine ↑
6. AlphaTauri ↑
7. Alfa Romeo ↓
8. Aston Martin ↑
9. Haas ↓
10. Williams
