The weekend Formula 1 fans wait for all year is upon us: Monaco. There’s something magical about this low-speed high-downforce track that snakes through the principality among all of its adornments: rich moguls, yachts, fine champagne, and spectacular vistas.
McLaren Honda go into the weekend with their highest hopes of the season for a solid points-paying result. The team is buoyed by its performance in Spain with one car making it to Q3 for the first time since the renewed partnership as well as very competitive times in the twisty sector 3 which could portend good things for Monaco.
Elsewhere on the grid we can expect Mercedes to dominate the race with this being a must-win for Lewis Hamilton whose poor luck has kept him from leading WDC standings while Rosberg looks to make it four Monaco wins in a row. The team to watch out for is Red Bull with its excellent chassis, one car getting Renault’s upgraded engine, and a hungry driver lineup consisting of the ever-strong Ricciardo and motivated Verstappen. If Ferrari can put all of the pieces together they could have a very strong result as well. Expect Williams, Force India, and Haas to be in the mix as well.
