Formula 1 returns to Autodromo Hermanos Rodriguez this weekend for the Mexican Grand Prix. Featuring the the highest elevation of any Formula 1 circuit the cars will have the unlikely combination of high downforce setups and some of the highest speeds seen all year due to the thin air. The circuit also has the distinctions of passing through the center of a stadium and is the only one to have post-race Park Ferme away from pit lane (in said stadium). Those attributes along with a raucous crowd getting ready to celebrate Día de los Muertos are why Autodromo Hermanos Rodriguez has become a favorite Grand Prix venue.
Red Bull have done it. They’ve achieved their ultimate goal and the dream of every Formula 1 team: win the driver’s and constructor’s championship. The points collected at COTA with Max’ win clinched the constructor’s title for Red Bull and Honda validating the partnership they forged in 2019 and Honda’s rocky return to F1 in 2015. Historically a strong track for the team, Red Bull has to be the favorite for a win and putting the second car on the podium is a strong possibility. On the AlphaTauri side of the garage recent issues will make points a tough ask but it’s possible for one car.
Elsewhere on the grid, look for this to be a general ranking of team performance coming into the race weekend:
1. Red Bull
2. Ferrari
3. Mercedes
4. Alpine
5. McLaren
6. Aston Martin
7. Alfa Romeo
8. Haas ↑
9. AlphaTauri ↓
10. Williams
