As we reach the halfway point of the 2022 F1 season the series heads to the Hungaroring, situated on the Northwest outskirts of Budapest, for the last race before F1’s summer break. First run in 1886, the Hungarian Grand Prix is known for producing winners who do not go on to win the driver’s championship. Pole position is key on this curvy track where overtaking is especially difficult; many drivers liken to Monaco without walls. As a matter of fact, the Hungaroring is the slowest permanent circuit on the F1 calendar in terms of average speed.
Red Bull come to the Hungaroring with a healthy lead in the championship; however, they will be wary that Ferrari can be fast when they execute properly, particularly on a low-speed circuit. Expect one car on the podium. On the AlphaTauri side of the garage points will be just out of reach unless they can begin to understand and exploit the recent upgrade package they introduced.
Elsewhere on the grid, look for this to be a general ranking of team performance coming into the race weekend:
1. Red Bull
2. Ferrari
3. Mercedes
4. Alpine
5. McLaren
6. Aston Martin
7. Alfa Romeo ↓
8. Haas ↑
9. AlphaTauri
10. Williams
