This weekend F1 heads to the Hungaroring, situated on the Northwest outskirts of Budapest, before the sport enters its summer break. First run in 1886, the Hungarian Grand Prix is known for producing winners who do not go on to win the driver’s championship. Pole position is key on this curvy track where overtaking is especially difficult; many drivers liken to Monaco without walls. As a matter of fact, the Hungaroring is the slowest permanent circuit on the F1 calendar in terms of average speed.
Red Bull will be desperate to execute flawlessly this weekend after a “the incident” at the British Grand Prix left the team reeling and handed momentum back to Mercedes. While the front office has filed an appeal against the severity (or lack thereof) of Hamilton’s penalty, the back office and garage staff will be trying their best to deliver perfection. In Hungary we could expect one car on the podium with a win a real possibility. AlphaTauri will have to fight to earn the points they desire but we can expect one car to score at Hungary.
Elsewhere on the grid, Mercedes’ upgrades seem to have worked and their win in the British Grand Prix have given them momentum, they will not be easy to beat. Look for McLaren to be the best of the rest. Following them we can expect a battle between a Ferrari and an Alpine. Next could be one or both Aston Martins. At this point in the order look for team cars to some of the previously mentioned runners. Following that we can expect to see a battle between one of the Williams cars and an Alfa Romeo. After that expect to see those team cars followed by the Haas duo bringing up the rear.
