Formula 1 heads to Spain this weekend to race at Circuit de Catalunya, Barcelona, a track that is acutely familiar to drivers as it is the home of winter testing. 2020 marks the first time the Spanish Grand Prix will be run in the heat of August which Pirelli expects to be particularly demanding on the tires.
A jubilant Red Bull team will make its way to Spain with renewed optimism for their prospects. With Spain being a less power-sensitive circuit and Red Bull gaining a better understanding of its optimal chassis setup, their prospects are good. Winning will be tough but second place would be a realistic goal with an eye on first. On the AlphaTauri side we should expect one car to finish in the points.
Elsewhere on the grid, we must still assume Mercedes are the favorites because of their overall package and harder tire selections on offer this weekend. Following the lead cars, all eyes will be on Racing Point to see whether they can deliver a high points-paying finish. From there we can expect a hard three way battle between a Ferrari, a Renault, and a McLaren. Further down the field we should expect Haas and Alfa Romeo locked in their own battle but likely not for points. Williams will round out the order but look for one car to creep up into the Haas/Alfa battle.
