The British Grand Prix, the pride of the Formula 1 calendar for many teams as it represents their home race and the heart of their fan base. Built in 1943 as a Royal Air Force bomber station, its three original runways now hold F1-famous features such as the Hangar Straight, Copse, Maggots and Becketts making it a genuine drivers’ favorite.
Buoyed by an encouraging performance by Jenson Button at last weekend’s Austrian Grand Prix, McLaren Honda will introduce an engine upgrade this weekend for both drivers. This change, primarily to the intake system, should help offset the power lost by a new turbine introduced in Canada to improve ERS deployment (McLaren Honda partly attribute Button’s success to the new turbine). With ten development tokens left following this upgrade it would seem the pieces are starting to come together to keep the Woking-based squad in the hunt for regular points-paying positions for the remainder of the season.
Elsewhere on the grid, all eyes are on the Mercedes duo of Hamilton and Rosberg after a questionable move by the latter at the Red Bull Ring nearly resulted in both cars being taken out of the race and left Toto Wolf considering “team orders” (though publicly Mercedes has said the two remain free to race). While Ferrari look to recover from yet another mixed result where only one car finished the race in Austria Red Bull will be the team to watch this weekend as their superior chassis and upgraded Renault engine should be ideal for Silverstone. We can hold some hope for Williams or Force India to be on the podium but expect them to be a long shot.
