F1 returns to Europe this weekend, specifically the Red Bull Ring, for the 30th running of Austrian Grand Prix. The layout of this circuit, with its lack of long straights and short overall distance, make it somewhat of a wildcard for teams who might struggle at power circuits such as Circuit Gilles Villeneuve and Baku City Circuit. Having been freshly resurfaced, expect laps to be particularly quick this weekend.
McLaren Honda are among those banking on the wildcard nature of this Grand Prix to rebound from two previous Grands Prix they’d rather forget. Both cars to have the ability to make it into the points here.
Elsewhere on the grid, Ferrari continue to work feverishly to put all of the pieces together and come up with its first win of the season. It goes without saying that this will be difficult against Mercedes but this is a circuit that should also suit Red Bull’s chassis and upgraded Renault Power Unit quite well. We also can’t forget that Force India has potential to be a spoiler for the front runners.
